Resources

Helping you navigate your child’s education with confidence.

The world of education can be complex — from changing curriculums and grading systems to understanding what kind of support your child truly needs. At LessonWise, we’re here to make it clearer.

Our Resources hub is designed to guide parents through every stage of their child’s learning journey — explaining how tutoring and mentoring work, what drives real progress, and how to make informed choices with confidence. Here, you’ll find trusted insights, practical advice, and answers to the most common questions families ask us every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the questions we are often asked. If your question isn't listed, feel free to get in touch!

How do you choose the right tutor for my child?

We only work with qualified teachers and examiners (QTS). After a short consultation and trial lesson, we match your child with the right tutor based on subject expertise, teaching style, and goals.

If the fit isn’t right, our Tutor MatchGuarantee means we’ll replace them immediately at no cost.

How do I know my child is making progress?

Every lesson is recorded and shared with notes. We also provide regular homework, assessments, and progress updates, so you always have clear visibility — not just reassurance.

Do I have access to lesson recordings?

You have access to a video recording of every lesson you attend. Forever. How do payments work?

Is online tutoring as effective as face-to-face?

Yes. Our online classroom is designed for engagement, with live annotations, instant resource sharing, and smooth video. Parents say the flexibility is invaluable — no travel, reliable scheduling, and lesson recordings for review.

What happens if the tutor isn’t a good fit?

We stand by our Tutor Match Guarantee. If the first tutor isn’t right, we’ll replace them within 48 hours.

What kind of results can we expect?

On average, students improve by at least 2 grades after six months of regular 1:1support. 87% of GCSE students achieve grades 8–9; more than 80% of A-Level students secure A/A*.

How flexible is scheduling?

Most students take 2–3 lessons per week, but we work around your family’s needs. Lessons can be rescheduled in advance.

How much does a tutor cost?

The cost of a tutor at LessonWise varies depending on the tutor's qualifications and experience. We offer different tiers of tutoring to meet various needs and budgets:

  • Undergraduate Tutors: £30-£40 per hour. Currently studying their subject at university with at least 2 years of tutoring experience.
  • Professional Tutors: £40-£55 per hour. Graduates who are subject experts with at least 5 years of private tutoring experience.
  • Qualified Teachers: £55-£70 per hour. Qualified teachers with a PGCE or QTS and several years of classroom and online tutoring experience.

Prices shown are the total cost paid by families. Tutors receive a standardised hourly rate that includes LessonWise’s service fee — covering student/tutor matching, safeguarding, access to our online classroom, and progress tracking tools.

Are small groups effective for exam prep?

Yes. Groups are capped at 10 students, ensuring feedback and personalised guidance while keeping the energy and motivation of peers.

Exam scripts are marked, with personalised feedback and a revision plan for exam day. Recordings and notes ensure nothing is missed.

What is the LessonWise intelligent classroom?

It’s the secure online classroom used across all LessonWise lessons — where students and tutors connect, collaborate, and track progress. It’s more than video: it includes interactive tools, live resources, and automatic recordings of every session.

Is this platform included in my child’s tutoring plan?

Yes. Every LessonWise session — whether one-to-one tutoring, mentoring, or group learning — takes place in the intelligent classroom. There’s nothing extra to install or pay for; it’s built into your experience.

Can my child access lesson recordings and resources afterwards?

Absolutely. Every lesson is recorded and securely stored with attached notes and resources. Students can replay any part of a session, search for key explanations, and revisit materials for revision and reinforcement.

How does the platform help parents stay informed?

Parents get live visibility through dashboards and reports that show progress, engagement, and upcoming lessons. You’ll always know how your child is performing and where support is most needed.

How does the platform help tutors teach better?

Our virtual classroom tools assist tutors with lesson planning, resource suggestions, and marking, so they can spend more time teaching. Engagement tracking during lessons helps them adapt in real time and provide personalised feedback.

Is it safe?

Yes — safety and safeguarding are built into every feature. All lessons are recorded, tutors are fully DBS-checked, and the platform uses encrypted connections and continuous AI monitoring for complete peace of mind.

What devices can we use?

The classroom works on laptops, tablets - we don't advise mobile phones, and most modern browsers. No software installation is required — you simply log in to LessonWise and join your session.

Can multiple children or tutors use the same account?

Each student and tutor has their own secure login to ensure lessons, recordings, and reports stay fully personalised and confidential. If you’re enrolled in small group tuition — such as our Exam Preparation Bootcamps — the classroom is built to host multiple students at once, with zero lag and no risk of crashing.

It’s designed for smooth collaboration, even in busy group settings, so every learner stays fully engaged and connected.
