Hi, I’m Thomas and I am currently in my 4th year of a General Engineering degree at Durham. I have been tutoring for around 3 years now, having completed over 400 sessions. An example of a session may involve a starter problem/question on subject matter covered the previous week, moving on to look at any content the student may have questions on based on their own work the preceding week. A non-compulsory academic selection entrance examination to secondary schools, including grammar schools and fee-paying independent schools*.
Examination process used solely in England, with Northern Irish grammar schools recently adopting the ‘Northern Ireland Transfer Test’ instead.
Tests are usually taken at the beginning of Year 6 in September. However, the majority of independent schools will have their entrance exams in January. Moreover, there is a possibility that pre-selection will take place even earlier, in November.
